SIOUXLAND DISTRICT HEALTH AND DAKOTA COUNTY HEALTH HAVE PAUSED USING THE JOHNSON & JOHNSON COVID-19 VACCINE UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

THAT’S BECAUSE ON MONDAY THE CDC AND FDA ANNOUNCED A PAUSE IN THE USE OF THE JOHNSON & JOHNSON (JANSSEN) VACCINE DUE TO A SMALL NUMBER OF REPORTS OF A RARE AND SEVERE TYPE OF BLOOD CLOT,

THERE HAVE BEEN 6 CASES OF THIS TYPE OF BLOOD CLOT REPORTED OUT OF OVER 6.8 MILLION DOSES OF THE JOHNSON & JOHNSON VACCINE THAT HAVE BEEN ADMINISTERED IN THE US.

THAT IS LESS THAN ONE CASE FOR EACH ONE MILLION DOSES THAT HAVE BEEN ADMINISTERED.

THE SIX CASES WILL BE REVIEWED BY FEDERAL HEALTH OFFICIALS TO DETERMINE THEIR SIGNIFICANCE.

PEOPLE EXPERIENCING SEVERE HEADACHE, SHORTNESS OF BREATH AND ABDOMINAL OR LEG PAIN WITHIN THREE WEEKS OF RECEIVING THE JOHNSON AND JOHNSON VACCINE SHOULD CONTACT THEIR HEALTH PROVIDER.
