NEBRASKA MOVES CLOSER TO COLLECTING ONLINE SALES TAX

Nebraska is one step closer to collecting sales taxes from out-of-state companies that sell to residents online.

Lawmakers gave first-round approval Monday to a bill that would require online retailers such as Amazon to collect sales taxes from third-party sellers and turn the money over to the state.

The measure advanced on a 44-0 vote.

It’s an effort to capture millions of dollars in revenue the state loses every year from online buyers who don’t report their sales tax liability as required.
