RETIRED ADMIRAL VERNON CLARK IS A NATIVE OF SIOUX CITY AND WAS SERVING AS THE CHIEF OF NAVAL OPERATIONS OF THE U.S. NAVY DURING THE TERRORIST ATTACKS OF SEPTEMBER 11TH, 2001.

ADMIRAL CLARK HAD BEEN IN CHARGE FOR A LITTLE LESS THAN 14 MONTHS AT THAT TIME,

HE REMEMBERS VIVIDLY THE DAY OF THE ATTACK, SERVING AT THE PENTAGON WHEN THE TWIN TOWERS OF NEW YORK CITY WERE STRUCK:

HE THEN CALLED THE COMMANDER OF THE ATLANTIC FLEET:

A FEW MINUTES LATER, A PASSENGER AIRLINER CRASHED INTO THE PENTAGON:

THE NEXT MORNING, ADMIRAL CLARK GATHERED HIS STAFF AND LAID OUT EXPECTATIONS:

LATER THAT DAY ON THE 12TH, PRESIDENT BUSH CAME TO THE PENTAGON:

CLARK RETIRED FROM THE NAVY IN JULY OF 2005.
