DAINS SENTENCED TO 60 YEARS IN PRISON

A CARROLL, IOWA MAN WILL LIKELY SPEND THE REST OF HIS LIFE IN PRISON AFTER BEING SENTENCED ON FOUR COUNTS MONDAY IN WOODBURY COUNTY DISTRICT COURT.

FORTY-FIVE-YEAR-OLD GARY DAINS JUNIOR WAS SENTENCED TO 60 YEARS IN PRISON BY JUDGE TOD DECK FOR THE JULY, 2019 DEATH OF 65-YEAR-OLD PAUL SMITH.

A JURY FOUND DAINS GUILTY IN MARCH OF VOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER, COMMISSION OF A SPECIFIED UNLAWFUL ACTIVITY, SECOND DEGREE THEFT AND FIRST DEGREE BURGLARY.

JUDGE DECK RULED THAT DAINS WOULD SERVE THE MANSLAUGHTER, UNLAWFUL ACTIVITY AND BURGLARY CHARGES CONSECUTIVELY AND THE 5-YEAR THEFT CHARGE CONCURRENTLY.

DAINS IS ALSO AWAITING SENTENCING IN MAY IN A SEPARATE CASE WHERE HE IS CHARGED WITH WILLFUL INJURY CAUSING SERIOUS INJURY.
