POLICE PATCH HOPES TO RAISE FUNDS & AWARENESS FOR LOCAL AUTISM CENTER

APRIL IS AUTISM ACCEPTANCE MONTH AND THE SIOUX CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT IS TEAMING UP WITH THE LOCAL PIER CENTER FOR AUTISM TO INCREASE AWARENESS OF THE DEVELOPMENTAL BEHAVIORAL DISORDER AND RAISE MONEY FOR THE CENTER.

POLICE CHIEF REX MUELLER SAYS CASES OF AUTISM CONTINUE TO RISE IN THE UNITED STATES, AND NOBODY REALLY KNOWS WHAT THE CAUSE OF THE DISORDER IS:

THE DEPARTMENT IS SELLING POLICE LOGO PATCHES WITH THE AUTISM PUZZLE SYMBOL FOR TEN DOLLARS EACH TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THE PIER CENTER:

MIRANDA SMALLEY, CLINICAL DIRECTOR OF THE LOCAL PIER CENTER, SAYS THE MONEY RAISED WILL HELP EXPAND LOCAL SERVICES AND HELP THE CENTER LOCATE INTO A NEW, LARGER FACILITY ON STADIUM DRIVE:

THERE ARE 70 FAMILIES CURRENTLY ON A WAITING LIST FOR THE CLINIC FROM UP TO 50 MILES AWAY SO THE EXPANSION NEED IS CRITICAL.
