MORNINGSIDE POLL SURVEYS IOWA’S POLITICAL ATTITUDES

MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE STUDENTS FROM THE SCHOOL’S COLONEL BUD DAY CENTER FOR CIVIC ENGAGEMENT HAVE RELEASED THE RESULTS OF THE 4TH ANNUAL MORNINGSIDE POLL,

THE SURVEY WAS CONDUCTED WITH COMPUTER-ASSISTED TELEPHONE INTERVIEWS OF 690 IOWA ADULTS

EIGHTEEN PERCENT OF THOSE POLLED STATED THAT COVID-19 WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT PROBLEM FACING THE COUNTRY TODAY WITH PARTISAN POLITICS SECOND AT 13 PERCENT AND ELECTED OFFICIALS 3RD AT TEN PERCENT.

SEVENTY PERCENT OF THOSE SURVEYED FELT STATE LAWMAKERS SHOULD INCREASE IOWA’S MINIMUM WAGE FROM $7.25 WITH 97% OF DEMOCRATS FAVORING AN INCREASE.

47% OF REPUBLICANS SUPPORTED AN INCREASE WITH ANOTHER 47% SAYING IT SHOULD REMAIN UNCHANGED.

56% OF THE PEOPLE POLLED SAID TRANSGENDER FEMALE ATHLETES SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN WOMEN’S SPORTS, WITH 34% APPROVING OF IT.

APPROVING RECREATIONAL MARIJUANA IN IOWA WAS FAVORED 51-43%.

A MAJORITY OF THOSE SURVEYED FELT THAT PRESIDENT BIDEN, GOVERNOR REYNOLDS AND SENATORS ERNST AND GRASSLEY WERE DOING A GOOD JOB IN OFFICE, BUT THE APPROVAL RANGE WAS BETWEEN 49 AND 54% ON EACH.

42% OF THOSE SURVEYED MOSTLY OR COMPLETELY SUPPORTED THE BLACK LIVES MATTER MOVEMENT, WITH 38% MOSTLY OR COMPLETELY OPPOSED TO IT.

THE POLLING TOOK PLACE FROM MARCH 8TH THROUGH 22ND AND HAS A MARGIN OF ERROR OF PLUS OR MINUS 3.7 PERCENT.
