THE WOODBURY COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS HAS APPROVED THE PROCESS TO APPOINT A NEW COUNTY TREASURER.

SUPERVISORS VOTED TO PUBLISH NOTICE OF THEIR INTENT TO APPOINT SOMEONE TO REPLACE MIKE CLAYTON AND APPROVE AN APPLICATION FORM FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN THE POSITION TO SUBMIT.

CLAYTON’S RETIREMENT TAKES EFFECT ON APRIL 2ND AND COUNTY AUDITOR PAT GILL SAYS UNDER A NEW STATE LAW, THERE’S NOT TIME FOR INTERESTED CANDIDATES TO GATHER SIGNATURES FOR A SPECIAL ELECTION FOR THE POST:

TREAS3 OC………..4570 SIGNATURES. :18

WHOEVER IS APPOINTED WOULD SERVE UNTIL THE NEXT GENERAL ELECTION IN 2022.
CLAYTON WAS ELECTED TO A NEW TERM IN NOVEMBER OF 2018, BUT HAS DECIDED TO RETIRE.

HE NOMINATED KOLBY DEWITT TO REPLACE HIM IN THE POST IN HIS RESIGNATION LETTER.

DEWITT CURRENTLY WORKS FOR SENATOR JONI ERNST AND IS THE NEPHEW OF CURRENT BOARD CHAIRMAN ROCKY DEWITT.

MIKE HEADID OF SGT. BLUFF, WHO FINISHED 3RD IN THE 2018 RACE WITH 4 PER CENT OF THE VOTE, TOLD THE SUPERVISORS TUESDAY THAT HE WAS INTERESTED IN THE JOB:

TREAS4 OC….MY DEVOTION’S THERE. :14

A SPECIAL ELECTION WOULD COST THE COUNTY AN ESTIMATED $15-20 THOUSAND DOLLARS.

WOODBURY COUNTY RESIDENTS COULD STILL PETITION FOR A SPECIAL ELECTION.

SUPERVISOR KEITH RADIG SAYS APPOINTING THE NEXT TREASURER WILL LIKELY DRAW A LARGER FIELD OF APPLICANTS THAN HOLDING AN ELECTION:

TREAS5 OC……..VERY LITTLE WORK. :23

THE SUPERVISORS WILL INTERVIEW INTERESTED CANDIDATES ON APRIL 6TH AND HOPE TO APPOINT A NEW TREASURER ON APRIL 13TH.

COUNTY AUDITOR PAT GILL WILL SERVE AS TREASURER UNTIL CLAYTON’S REPLACEMENT IS SWORN INTO OFFICE.
