Storm Lake Police say the victim of a drowning Monday morning near Awaysis Park Beach on the lake was a child from Sioux City.
Authorities say the victim has been identified as 6 year old Luis Fernando Silva Moreno.
The boy’s mother called for help after her son had been missing off of the beach for about 20 minutes.
The child was last seen near the water on the beach.
The Buena Vista County Joint Dive Team was dispatched to the scene and upon deploying into the shallow water, found the boy underwater within six minutes.
The child was taken to an ambulance where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy will be performed by the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office.

Storm Lake Police have recovered the body of a missing person who they say drowned.
Police say the body was recovered late Monday morning at Awaysis Beach in a park on the lake on East Lakeshore Drive in Storm Lake.
Authorities are continuing their investigation of the drowning.
The victim’s name has not been released.
