THE INVESTIGATION OF WHAT CAUSED A TRAIN DERAILMENT AND COLLAPSE OF A RAILROAD BRIDGE IN NORTH SIOUX CITY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON IS CONTINUING.
UNION COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGER JASON WESTCOTT SAYS THE INCIDENT HAPPENED SHORTLY BEFORE 4 P.M. IN WHICH SEVERAL FREIGHT AND TANKER CARS LEFT BOTH THE TRACKS AND THE RAILROAD BRIDGE IN THE MILITARY ROAD AND MAIN STREET/ HIGHWAY 105 AREA OF NORTH SIOUX CITY:
DERAIL OC…HANGING FROM IT. :13
WESTCOTT SAYS MOST OF THE DERAILED CARS WERE EMPTY WHEN THE OLDER WOODEN STYLE BRIDGE COLLAPSED:
DERAIL1 OC……..TO THE PUBLIC. :22
HE SAYS THANKFULLY, NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED:
DERAIL2 OC……WHEN IT DID COLLAPSE. :07
MILITARY ROAD WAS EXPECTED TO REOPEN TO TRAFFIC SOMETIME WEDNESDAY NIGHT.
WESTCOTT SAYS HIGHWAY 105 AT THE BRIDGE WILL LIKELY BE CLOSED FOR ANOTHER DAY OR TWO.

TRAFFIC IS BACKED UP ON MILITARY ROAD LEADING FROM RIVERSIDE INTO NORTH SIOUX CITY BECAUSE OF A TRAIN DERAILMENT AND COLLAPSE OF THE RAILROAD BRIDGE.
A HALF DOZEN CARS HAVE REPORTEDLY DERAILED FROM THE COLLAPSE OF THE RAILROAD BRIDGE IN THE NORTH SIOUX CASINO AREA.
NO INJURIES HAVE BEEN REPORTED AT THIS TIME.
THE UNION COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS MOTORISTS SHOULD AVOID THE AREA AROUND MILITARY ROAD, HIGHWAY 12 AND RIVER DRIVE IN NORTH SIOUX CITY AND SEEK ALTERNATE ROUTES.
