SIOUX CITY MAN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER FOLLOWING STANDOFF

A SIOUX CITY MAN HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER IN THE AFTERMATH OF A STANDOFF LAST DECEMBER WHERE HE ALLEGEDLY FIRED ARROWS AT CITY POLICE OFFICERS DURING A STANDOFF.

47-YEAR-OLD MITCHELL SMITH IS ALSO CHARGED WITH TWO COUNTS OF ASSAULTING AN OFFICER AND INTIMIDATION WITH A DANGEROUS WEAPON.

THE CHARGES STEM FROM AN INCIDENT AT 1808 RUSTIN STREET THAT BEGAN AS A DISTURBANCE CALL THE MORNING OF DECEMBER 1ST.

COMPLAINT DOCUMENTS STATE THAT RESPONDING OFFICERS WERE THREATENED BY THE DEFENDANT WHO THEN WENT IN HIS HOME AND GOT A COMPOUND BOW AND ARROWS AND SHOT SEVERAL ARROWS AT TWO OFFICERS.

AFTER A TWO HOUR STANDOFF, POLICE FIRED ROUNDS OF A NON-LETHAL CHEMICAL AGENT INTO SMITH’S HOME AND TOOK THE SUSPECT INTO CUSTODY.

SMITH IS BEING HELD IN THE WOODBURY COUNTY JAIL ON $100-THOUSAND DOLLARS BOND.
