A federal judge in South Dakota has ordered the oil to stop flowing through the Dakota Access pipeline.

The pipeline runs from North Dakota and through 18 Iowa counties before heading into south-central Illinois.

The judge ordered the shutdown by August 5th after finding the U-S Army Corps of Engineers violated the National Environmental Policy Act for running crude oil beneath a lake.

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and others have been fighting the pipeline since its inception.
