SPENCER ENTERS NOT GUILTY PLEA TO ATTEMPTED MURDER

A SUSPECT CHARGED IN A SHOOTING LAST MONTH INVOLVING A WOODBURY COUNTY DEPUTY HAS PLEADED NOT GUILTY TO ATTEMPTED MURDER IN THAT CASE.

24 YEAR OLD MELVIN SPENCER ENTERED HIS PLEA FRIDAY MORNING AT HIS ARRAIGNMENT IN WOODBURY COUNTY DISTRICT COURT.

SPENCER WAS THE DRIVER DURING A PURSUIT THAT ENDED ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF TOWN NEAR THE POLICE TRAINING CENTER WHEN HIS VEHICLE BECAME STUCK.

SPENCER ALLEGEDLY INITIATED GUNFIRE WITH WOODBURY COUNTY DEPUTY MICHAEL LENZ AND THEN FLED ON FOOT.

SPENCER WAS APPREHENDED THREE HOURS LATER.

JUDGE JEFFREY POULSON SET A MAY 9TH TRIAL DATE.
