Union and Yankton Counties have been awarded funds from the state of South Dakota for successfully diverting juvenile offenders from the criminal justice system.
Governor Dennis Daugaard says the money is from the Juvenile Justice Reinvestment Initiative passed by the 2015 Legislature:

Two years ago, South Dakota had the second highest juvenile commitment rate in the nation.
The allotment of funds is based on a rate of $250 per juvenile for successful completions of a court-approved diversion program.
Union County was successful on 5 out of 5 juvenile diversion cases, Yankton County on 5 of 6.
