WAR EAGLE HUMAN RIGHTS AWARDS HONOR TRIO OF RESIDENTS

Saturday is Universal Human Rights Day and Sioux City’s Human Rights Commission marked the occasion by honoring three local residents for their efforts in a Friday ceremony.

Karen Mackey, the Commission’s Executive Director presented the annual War Eagle Human Rights Awards to Joanne Fox, Jim Rixner and Monique Scarlett for positively improving the civil rights climate in the Siouxland area:

Jim Rixner was honored for his lifetime of work as a mental health professional, his volunteer work and his two terms on the Human Rights Commission:

Monique Scarlett was nominated by the Sioux City Police Department for her work in founding “Unity in the Community”, which encourages peaceful interactions between the Police Department and local residents:

Joanne Fox was recognized for her volunteer efforts to direct the production of The Miracle Worker at the Sioux City Community Theatre:

The awards were presented at a luncheon held in the Sioux City Public Museum.
