The first degree murder trial of Elias Wanatee resumed Thursday morning with several members of the Sioux City Police Department being called to the witness stand.
Officer Zac Croft testified that he was sent to Mercy Medical Center on an early February morning to check on a stabbing victim who had been brought there.
That victim was 50 year old Vernon Mace, who Wanatee allegedly had stabbed nine times.
Mace died about an hour later from his injuries.
Police Sgt. Ron Heimgartner went to the 1900 West 1st Street address where the stabbing was reported.

Detective Sgt. Ryan Bertrand testified about how Wanatee was located and apprehended thanks to a 9-1-1 call by a private citizen who told police Wanatee was at a Douglas Street apartment:

Police I.D. tech Irina Brodsky also testified about evidence gathered at the crime scene and in the West 1st home where Mace went after he was stabbed.
