NOW THAT BELOW FREEZING TEMPERATURES ARE HERE, MANY LOCAL RESIDENTS MAY BE WORRIED ABOUT PAYING THEIR HOME HEATING BILLS.

HELP IS AVAILABLE THROUGH LIHEAP, THE LOW INCOME HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM, WHICH IS AVAILABLE THROUGH THE COMMUNITY ACTION AGENCY OF SIOUXLAND.

JEAN LOGAN IS THE AGENCY DIRECTOR, AND SAYS THE PROGRAM PROVIDES FUNDS TO QUALIFYING RESIDENTS TO PARTIALLY PAY THEIR HEATING BILL:

OC…….ENERGY ASSISTANCE. ;24

LOGAN SAYS IT’S IMPORTANT TO APPLY FOR THE ASSISTANCE.

THERE’S A MORATORIUM NOW THROUGH APRIL FIRST WHERE UTILITY COMPANIES CAN’T TURN OFF YOUR HEAT IF YOU QUALIFY FOR LIHEAP:

OC……….CAN BE SHUT OFF. ;26

COMMUNITY SERVICES DIRECTOR LARAE LYONS SAYS THOSE WANTING TO SIGN UP FOR LIHEAP MUST FIRST CALL THE COMMUNITY ACTION AGENCY TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AND FIND OUT WHAT DOCUMENTATION THEY NEED TO BRING WITH THEM:

LOGAN SAYS IF YOU HAVE AN UNDOCUMENTED PERSON IN YOUR HOME, YOU MAY STILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR ASSISTANCE FOR THOSE WHO ARE DOCUMENTED.
