Mercy Medical Center has started using a high-tech approach to registering patients.

The hospital’s new PatientSecure palm-scanning technology went live on October 25th.

PatientSecure works by scanning the vein pattern of a patient’s palm, which are highly unique to every individual, to create an encrypted and protected digital file which is linked to a specific medical record.

Once they have registered, users’ identities can be immediately confirmed at registration, with no room for human errors in matching individuals to their correct personal medical records.
