South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says he’s forming a political committee with about $700,000 in the bank as he prepares to run for governor in 2018.

Jackley says the group will include funds from his attorney general committee and a separate political action committee.

Jackley’s move came a day after U.S. Rep. Kristi Noem announced her own run for governor.

Both Republicans were moving ahead of a change in state law that would have limited how much money they could transfer from existing campaign accounts into bids for new political office.
