Update 5pm 11-3-16
DES MOINES AUTHORITIES HAVE NOW CHARGED A SUSPECT WITH TWO COUNTS OF FIRST DEGREE MURDER IN THE AMBUSH SHOOTING DEATHS OF TWO POLICE OFFICERS EARLY WEDNESDAY.
46-YEAR-OLD SCOTT MICHAEL GREENE WAS PUT UNDER ARREST THIS AFTERNOON (THURSDAY) AFTER HE WAS RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL AND QUESTIONED BY DETECTIVES.
THE DES MOINES POLICE DEPARTMENT SAYS THAT GREENE WAS PUT INTO HANDCUFFS THAT HAD BELONGED TO THE TWO SLAIN OFFICERS SGT ANTHONY BEMINIO AND URBANDALE OFFICER JUSTIN MARTIN.
BOTH WERE MURDERED WHILE SITTING IN THEIR CARS IN SEPARATE INCIDENTS LESS THAN TWO MILES APART AROUND ONE AM WEDNESDAY.
We continue to learn more about the man suspected in the shooting deaths of two Iowa police officers.
46-year-old Scott Greene had been ordered by a judge to move out of his mother’s home just hours before the shootings.
Court documents show a judge ruled Tuesday that Greene had committed elder abuse against his mother, Patricia Greene, by “hitting and financially exploiting” her.
The judge ordered Greene to move out of his mother’s home in Urbandale before November 6th and to stay away for a year.
Authorities say a gun found by a search dog in a wooded area is believed to be weapon used in the fatal ambush shootings of the two Des Moines area officers.
Des Moines police spokesman Sgt. Paul Parizek says the weapon was found a day earlier “where no person probably could have found it.”
Parizek says the suspect in the shootings, 46 year old Scott Greene, remains in a hospital for treatment of an existing medical condition.
He says Investigations have yet to speak with Greene:
OC………conversation with him. ;15
Des Moines Police Chief Dana Wingert says he has little interest in the reasons why the officers were murdered:
OC………it ended. :12
Greene’s truck apparently became stuck in mud in a wooded area of rural Dallas County.
Wingert says that’s when the suspect flagged down a state D-N-R employee, leading to his arrest:
OC………run and hide. ;11
Investigators are looking at possible first-degree murder charges, but no formal charges have been filed.
That won’t happen until Greene is released from the hospital.
