BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY RELEASED THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT:
“At this point, discussions about Headington Park are very preliminary. The University is most interested in getting input from community members, especially those who currently use the park, and hearing about ways we can partner with the community if Briar Cliff were to take responsibility for this space.”
BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY HAS APPROACHED THE CITY ABOUT PURCHASING A WESTSIDE PARK.
CITY PARKS DIRECTOR MATT SALVATORE SAYS THE UNIVERSITY IS INTERESTED IN TAKING OVER HEADINGTON PARK, WHICH IS A FEW BLOCKS EAST OF THE SCHOOL ON REBECCA STREET:
OC…….OWN THE PARK. ;24
SALVATORE SAYS BRIAR CLIFF ALSO HAS A SECONDARY INTEREST IN THE PARK PROPERTY:
OC…….OK WITH THAT. ;12
SALVATORE SAYS BRIAR CLIFF WOULD NOT BUILD A DORM THERE, BUT WOULD CONSIDER BUILDING TOWN HOMES FOR STUDENT LIVING QUARTERS ON THE SITE.
HE SAYS THE POTENTIAL DEAL WOULD HAVE THE CITY SELL THE PARK TO BRIAR CLIFF FOR A DOLLAR AND HAVE THEM DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN THE PROPERTY.
SALVATORE SAYS THE NEXT STEP WOULD LIKELY BE FOR THE PARKS BOARD TO GET INPUT FROM THE CRESCENT PARK AREA RESIDENTS THAT LIVE NEAR HEADINGTON PARK, AND SCHEDULE A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE MATTER.
