South Sioux City officials are continuing to take corrective measures to stop a sewer gas backup that is affecting some homes in that city.
City officials say the odor originated with the Big Ox Energy Plant, which processes waste from other plants and generates methane gas.
City Administrator Lance Hedquist says that company and the city are dealing with the odor in several ways:
OC………at the plant. :16
Hedquist says the city is also implementing a fix in the sewer lines around 39th Street:
OC…………back up the line. :28
Hedquist advises residents to check their basement drains and sewer traps to make sure they’re in working order:
OC……at that location. ;17
Hedquist says each home in the affected neighborhood has been checked for gas levels and to make sure there’s no other issue.
He says the city and Big Ox hope to have the problem resolved in the next few days.
