UPDATED 2PM 10/13/16
Le Mars city officials have backed off on their plan to shut off the water supply to businesses near the Central Avenue and Plymouth Street downtown intersection.
Assistant City Administrator, Jason Vacera says the project to install a new fire hydrant and water line valves has been postponed until next week in the four block area:
OC……..CAN STAY ON. :21
Vacera says with the new way of making the repairs, most of the downtown businesses should not have any interruption with their water services:
OC……….NEXT WEEK. ;14
Originally the plan to shut off the water called for a boil order through Saturday for the affected businesses.
The Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor that had announced it would close for the weekend beginning at 4pm Thursday will now remain open.
PART OF THE DOWNTOWN AREA OF LE MARS WILL NEED TO BOIL THEIR WATER BEFORE USING IT FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS.
THAT’S BECAUSE THE LE MARS CITY WATER DEPARTMENT IS UPGRADING THE DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM WITH NEW MAIN VALVES AND ADDING A FIRE HYDRANT AT THE INTERSECTION OF PLYMOUTH STREET AND CENTRAL AVENUE.
GAYLE SITZMANN, SUPERINTENDENT OF THE LE MARS WATER DEPARTMENT SAYS THE BOIL ORDER TAKES EFFECT TODAY (THURSDAY)
OC……..GUIDELINES FOR THAT. :17
THE WATER WILL ALSO BE OFF FOR AROUND FOUR HOURS TODAY (THURSDAY) BEGINNING AT 5PM IN THAT FOUR BLOCK AREA AND CUSTOMERS WILL NEED TO FLUSH THEIR LINES WHEN WATER SERVICE IS RESTORED UNTIL THE WATER IS CLEAR.
SITZMANN SAYS THE BOIL ORDER WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT INTO THE WEEKEND:
OC……LIFTED AT THAT TIME. ;20
IF ALL SAMPLES COME BACK ABSENT OF BACTERIA THE BOIL ORDER WILL BE LIFTED.
BECAUSE OF THE WORK, THE BLUE BUNNY ICE CREAM PARLOR ON CENTRAL AVENUE IN LE MARS WILL BE CLOSED BEGINNING AT 4:00PM ON TODAY (THURSDAY) AND WILL RE-OPEN AT NOON ON SUNDAY.
