AFTER THREE DAYS OF JURY SELECTION, THE TRIAL OF 19 YEAR OLD ISAIAH MOTHERSHED OF SIOUX CITY GOT UNDERWAY FRIDAY MORNING IN WOODBURY COUNTY DISTRICT COURT.

MOTHERSHED IS CHARGED WITH TWO COUNTS OF ATTEMPTED MURDER AND FOUR COUNTS OF FIRST-DEGREE ROBBERY.

WOODBURY COUNTY ATTORNEY PATRICK JENNINGS SAID IN HIS OPENING STATEMENTS THAT THE CASE WAS ABOUT MONEY, GUNS AND DRUGS, AND THAT THE EVIDENCE WOULD PROVE THAT MOTHERSHED TOOK PART IN A STRING OF ROBBERIES THAT ENDED WHEN HE WAS ARRESTED AND SHOT SIOUX CITY POLICE OFFICER RYAN MORITZ ON FEBRUARY 6TH.

DEFENSE ATTORNEY MATTHEW METZGAR TOLD JURORS THAT NOBODY COULD POSITIVELY IDENTIFY MOTHERSHED AT THE ROBBERIES, AND THAT SEVERAL WITNESSES EXPECTED TO TESTIFY IN THE TRIAL WERE DOING SO TO RECEIVE LESSER SENTENCES IN PLEA AGREEMENTS.

ONE OF THE VICTIMS OF MOTHERSHED’S ALLEGED ROBBERIES, JACOB HOPKINS, TESTIFIED FRIDAY AFTERNOON THAT HE COULD NOT IDENTIFY MOTHERSHED.

THAT’S BECAUSE THE SUSPECTS WHO ROBBED AND ASSAULTED HOPKINS WERE WEARING MASKS.

THE TRIAL WILL CONTINUE ON MONDAY.
