SOUTH SIOUX SCHOOLS PLACED ON LOCKDOWN FOLLOWING THREAT

CLASSES ARE BACK TO NORMAL IN SOUTH SIOUX CITY AFTER THE DISTRICT’S FACILITIES WERE PLACED ON LOCKDOWN THURSDAY MORNING.

LT. CHRIS CHERNOCK OF THE SOUTH SIOUX CITY POLICE SAYS THE INCIDENT BEGAN AROUND 8AM AT THE HIGH SCHOOL INVOLVING A CONVERSATION OVERHEARD BETWEEN TWO MALE STUDENTS:

POLICE RESPONDED AND REMOVED THOSE TWO STUDENTS FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL AND THE BUILDING WAS EVACUATED AND SEARCHED FOR WEAPONS:

THE TWO STUDENTS HAVE NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED, BUT LT. CHERNOCK SAYS THEY ARE FACING POSSIBLE CRIMINAL CHARGES:

THE LOCKDOWN WAS LIFTED AROUND 10:35AM.

PARENTS WERE GIVEN AN OPTION TO PICK UP THEIR CHILDREN OR CONTINUE ON WITH THE REST OF THE SCHOOL DAY.

SOUTH SIOUX CITY POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING A THREAT INVOLVING SOMEONE AT THE CITY’S HIGH SCHOOL THURSDAY MORNING.

POLICE CHIEF ED MAHON SAYS THE ENTIRE SCHOOL DISTRICT’S BUILDINGS WERE PLACED ON LOCKDOWN BECAUSE OF WHAT HE CALLED “A VALID THREAT”.

AUTHORITIES SAY A CONVERSATION INVOLVING THREATS WAS OVERHEARD AT THE HIGH SCHOOL, AND POLICE RESPONDED.

TWO STUDENTS WERE REMOVED FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL AND ARE BEING INTERVIEWED.

THE BUILDING WAS ALSO BEING SEARCHED FOR WEAPONS.
POLICE SAY THEY HOPE TO HAVE THE REST OF THE SCHOOL DAY BACK TO NORMAL SOON.

THEY SAY ALL OF THE DISTRICT’S BUILDINGS ARE SECURE AND THE STUDENTS ARE SAFE.

POLICE ARE ASKING PARENTS TO NOT DRIVE TO THE HIGH SCHOOL TO ENSURE EVERYONE’S SAFETY.
