South Sioux City has broken ground for a new $2.6 million dollar, 12,225 square foot fire station.
The fire station will have four drive through bays, wash bays, office space and sleeping quarters.
Fire Chief Toby English says the drive through bays will allow the department to purchase trucks that would not have fit in the current fire station:

The chief says there will be several new other amenities their current station lacks:

The department has four full time paid staff and 15 volunteers.
City Administrator Lance Hedquist hopes the new facility will help recruit more volunteer firefighters:

South Sioux City’s Community Foundation received a loan for $2.6 million from USDA Rural Development to cover the initial construction costs and it will be repaid with existing sales tax dollars.
The city hopes to start construction in a few weeks with a completion date of October 2017.
