Wapello County has become the third Iowa county to approve a proposal for a higher minimum wage.
On Tuesday the county supervisors voted to raise the wage January 1st to $8.20 an hour from the current national minimum of $7.25.
It will increase to $9.15 in 2018 and $10.10 in 2019.
The ordinance has an opt out option for county municipalities.
Bruce Lear is part of a group of local residents trying to convince Woodbury County Supervisors to increase the minimum wage here.
He told the supervisors Tuesday that more counties are moving to at least study the issue:
OC…………to study it. :19
Lear invited the supervisors to attend a public meeting on the issue Thursday evening at Morningside College.
The meeting will take at 7pm in the UPS Auditorium in the Lincoln Business Center.
