Local law enforcement officials who were honored in Washington D.C. last week for the arrest and prosecution of Jamal Dean met with U.S. Senator Charles Grassley in Sioux City Monday.
Assistant United States Attorney Forde Fairchild, Sioux City Police Officer Kevin McCormick, Detective Troy Hansen and ATF Special Agent Todd Monney met privately with the senator at city police headquarters.
Grassley says it was important to meet with the group for what they accomplished in getting a dangerous criminal off the streets:
OC…………this honor is. :15
Jamal Dean shot Officer McCormick in the head in April of 2013 during a traffic stop.
McCormick gives credit to his fellow officers and the federal agents and prosecutors who brought Dean and his co-defendants to justice:
OC………..all together. :20
Fairchild was the lead prosecutor whose efforts resulted in Dean getting a life sentence for the shooting of McCormick and also two other individuals in other gang related activities and assaults
OC………proud of that. ;13
The combined cases resulted in 13 convictions including a life sentence for Jamal Dean.
Grassley says he believes it was the first time any Iowa law enforcement personnel had received the federal honors.
