Bach says the Parks Department has not planted any ash trees since 2005 and has planted a wide diversity of tree species that the borer will not affect.

The city estimates up to 30% of the trees in town are ash trees. Bach says no one type should make up more than ten per cent of the population:

Bach says ash tree owners don’t need to start pre-treating their trees yet with a preventive chemical, since the pest is not here.
