A new memorial to a Sioux City pastor who was murdered in 1886 will be dedicated tonight (Weds.) near the site of the crime.
Reverend George C. Haddock was shot through the neck on August 3rd of 1886 at approximately ten pm on the corner of 4th and Water Streets.
Pastor Cary Gordon of Cornerstone Church says Haddock was a crusader against alcohol, as well as slavery, government corruption and abuse:
OC………..what he wanted. ;19
Reverend Haddock’s killer was never brought to justice:
OC……having a beer. ;27
At 10pm, Deputy Sheriff Gene Hacker will fire a black powder pistol similar to the weapon used to murder Haddock at that moment 130 years ago
Pastor Gordon will then present the Medal of Christ the Cornerstone to descendants of Reverend Haddock:
OC………….their family heritage. ;16
The medal is the highest honor the church can bestow upon a man.
Pastor Gordon says the taking of communion will take place at the memorial service, which will begin around 9:30pm.
