Former Sioux City TV news anchor Dave Nixon has been nominated by Palo Alto County Democrats to run for the vacant seat on the county board of supervisors.
Nixon will run for the seat vacated by the recent death of Supervisor Jerry Hofstad.
A special election will be held on November 19th for the final year of the term. The new four year regular term will be voted on in November of 2014.
Nixon was seen nightly on KCAU-TV and then KTIV-TV in Sioux City with a stint in Des Moines in between.
He left television in 1991 to teach radio/television at Iowa Lakes Community College and later became Executive Dean.
In 2003, Nixon was hired away from Iowa Lakes to become president at a Michigan Community College.
Nixon and his wife returned to Emmetsburg in July after retiring from the Michigan position.
He has also returned to Sioux City the last several winters to co-host the annual "Little Yellow Dog" auction heard on KSCJ for the Mr. Goodfellow fund of the Sioux City Journal.
