Another 15 members of the 185th Air National guard in Sioux City have been laid off as a result of the continuing federal government shutdown.
Those temporary layoffs involve state employees and are part of 100 layoffs by the guard statewide.
A statement from Colonel Greg Hapgood of the Iowa National Guard says the workers received notice Thursday afternoon that they would be temporarily laid off for up to 60 days beginning Friday.
This immediate layoff is in lieu of the previously-announced 30-day temporary layoff originally scheduled to begin on October 18th.
Drill has also been cancelled for all Iowa National Guard units and personnel scheduled for training October 11th through the 20th, due to unavailability of funding for personnel and purchases.
Hapgood says approximately 2,100 full-time Iowa National Guard employees remain on duty, including Active Guard and Reserve military personnel and federal technicians.
