Governor Terry Branstad has signed into law a bill that would give some Iowa counties a share of $11.6 million to continue treatment of mental health patients through June 30th as the state transitions to a regional system.
The bill aids 26 of 32 counties seeking extra funding to get them through this fiscal year.
County Human Services Director Patty Erickson-Puttmann says Woodbury County will not benefit from the bill though:
Erickson-Puttmann says she's hopeful state lawmakers will pass additional funding for the next fiscal year to restore program cuts Woodbury County Supervisors were forced to pass last month:
The funding cuts are forcing counties to link up in state mandated regional groups to provide mental health services.
The new fiscal year begins July 1st.
