The Salvation Army in Sioux City is filled with toys and food to help provide a merry Christmas to 700 Siouxland families.
Friday is the annual Christmas distribution of toys and food baskets for 600 families with approximately 1,800 children, as well as food baskets for about 100 senior citizens.
The food baskets will contain either a ham or turkey, along with all the trimmings to provide for a family meal on Christmas Day. Parents will select toys for their children from a giant toy shop being created for this one-day event at The Salvation Army, 1415 Villa Ave, in Sioux City.
Volunteers will accompany parents through the Toy Shop during pre-registered times and assist them in selecting gifts for their children. Those receiving the food and toys pre-registered with the Salvation Army shortly before Thanksgiving.
Meanwhile there's still a couple of days left for the annual bell ringing fund raising campaign. Program director Rob Ouellette says donations have been steady this year:
The Salvation Army has been serving those in need in Siouxland since 1888.
