SIOUX CITY FAILS TO GET D-O-T GRANT FOR RAIL VIADUCT

SIOUX CITY HAS LOST OUT IN ITS APPLICATION FOR A FEDERAL GRANT TO HELP FUND BUILDING A VIADUCT OVER RAILROAD TRACKS ON 18TH STREET IN THE HOEVEN CORRIDOR.

CITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR MARTY DOUGHERTY SAYS THERE WAS A LOT OF COMPETITION FOR LIMITED DOLLARS IN THE GRANT PROCESS:

THE CITY WAS HOPING TO BE AWARDED UP TO 16 MILLION DOLLARS IN FEDERAL TRANSPORTATION FUNDS FOR THE 20 MILLION DOLLAR PROJECT.

DOUGHERTY SAYS THE CITY WILL LOOK AT OBTAINING ALTERNATIVE SOURCES OF FUNDING AND LIKELY REAPPLY FOR THE D-O-T- GRANT.

DOUGHERTY SAYS HE REMAINS OPTIMISTIC ABOUT THE FUTURE OF THE VIADUCT AND THINKS IT WILL EVENTUALLY BE BUILT.
