PLANS ARE UNDERWAY TO CELEBRATE THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE WOODBURY COUNTY COURTHOUSE.

THE CORNERSTONE TO THE BUILDING WAS LAID IN JULY OF 1916 AND THE BUILDING WAS FINISHED AND OCCUPIED ON MARCH 1ST OF 1918.

WOODBURY COUNTY SUPERVISOR MARK MONSON SAYS THERE’S A LOT OF HISTORY IN THE COURTHOUSE:

MONSON SAYS MUCH OF THE BUILDING’S HISTORY IS UNKNOWN TO MOST RESIDENTS.

FOR INSTANCE, THERE IS A FLOOR TWO AND A HALF OFF OF THE SECOND FLOOR JUDGES CHAMBERS DATING BACK TO THE 1920’S:

OC…….HERE IN A DORM. ;17

PART OF THAT AREA IS NOW HOME TO ALL OF THE COUNTY’S ADOPTION RECORDS SINCE 1918.

SOME ITEMS LIKE ORIGINAL WINDOWS HAVE BEEN REMOVED OVER THE YEARS AND MONSON HOPES THAT THOSE WHO HAVE THEM WOULD DONATE THEM BACK TO THE RESTORATION EFFORT:

MONSON SAYS A COMMITTEE WILL BE FORMED TO PLAN OUT THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF THE COURTHOUSE IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
