CITY LEGAL BILLS IN PAUL ECKERT LAWSUIT EXCEED $1 MILLION

The city’s legal bills are in from the sexual harassment lawsuit filed against former city manager Paul Eckert by city employee Brittany Scott.

The total cost to the city for the lawsuit filed in 2013 runs at $1,080,108.46.

The biggest expense was for attorney fees incurred by the city to defend the case…..$730,303.97.

City Attorney Nicole Jensen says there were several reasons the expenses ran that high:

The city attorney’s office could not represent the city because of their involvement in the case:

Scott’s settlement was for $300,000.

She received $108,000 and the lawfirm that represented her….Munger, Reinschmidt and Denne….was paid $192,000.

Jensen says the city’s tort fund was used to pay the legal fees:

Computer forensic costs, witness fees, court reporting and mileage made up the remaining expenses.

Jensen says all the bills have been paid and says the city will now move forward.
