State Senator Dan Lederman of Dakota Dunes has resigned his seat in the South Dakota Senate effective immediately.
Lederman posted a letter on his facebook page stating that he was retiring from the senate to spend more time with his family.
He stated that he owes a debt to his family for their love and support over the seven years he has served in the legislature and it is his intention to pay it back in full, with interest.
The Republican was re-elected to the state senate last November and says campaigns could be fun, family affairs, but when it results in him living apart in a hotel for weeks, that isn’t a reward.
Governor Dennis Daugaard will appoint a replacement to fill out Lederman’s term in District 16, and he is encouraging the governor to appoint State Representative Jim Bolin in his place.
Lederman says he is looking forward to continuing his involvement in state and local politics.
