ONE OF SIOUX CITY’S BEST KNOWN FORMER POLICE OFFICERS WILL BE HONORED AT THE DOWNTOWN LOCATION WHERE HE INTERACTED WITH HUNDREDS OF RESIDENTS ON A DAILY BASIS.

POLICE CHIEF YOUNG TOLD MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL THAT A PLAQUE HONORING THE LATE OFFICER, EFREN BATA, WILL BE PLACED AT THE INTERSECTION OF 4TH AND PIERCE.

OFFICER BATA DIRECTED TRAFFIC AT THAT INTERSECTION FOR SEVERAL YEARS IN THE 60’S AND 70’S, WHEN DOWNTOWN SIOUX CITY WAS THE CITY’S MAIN RETAIL AND BUSINESS DISTRICT:

EFREN BATA PASSED AWAY IN MAY OF 2008.

CHIEF YOUNG SAYS HE HOPES TO HAVE THE PLAQUE INSTALLED IN SEPTEMBER.
