CARELESS SMOKING IS TO BLAME FOR A FIRE THAT DAMAGED A SIOUX CITY HOME ABOUT 10PM MONDAY NIGHT.

FIREFIGHTERS FOUND SMOKE COMING FROM THE RESIDENCE AT 3108 2ND STREET WHEN THEY ARRIVED AT THE ONE STORY DWELLING.

THE FIRE WAS DISCOVERED IN THE KITCHEN OF THE UNOCCUPIED HOME AND QUICKLY EXTINGUISHED.

THE STRUCTURE SUSTAINED MODERATE FIRE AND SMOKE DAMAGE AND HAS BEEN RED-TAGGED BY CITY OFFICIALS.

THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS DETERMINED TO BE IMPROPER DISPOSAL OF SMOKING MATERIALS IN A GARBAGE CAN.

NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED.
