Woodbury County has officially approved the hiring of Marty Pottebaum to be the director of security for the county courthouse.

The Board of Supervisors voted to hire the former Sioux City police officer and city councilman at their Tuesday morning meeting.

Pottebaum has a long history of serving in both local law enforcement and security:

Some changes have already been implemented in the courthouse.

They include a scanner set at the north entrance, and the west entrance doors on Douglas Street have been bolted shut and had yellow police tape put across them.

Pottebaum was selected out of four finalists interviewed by the county.

The process of hiring staff to man the scanner entrance is underway, with three people hired so far for part time positions.

Pottebaum officially begins his duties on Thursday.
