THE CITY COUNCIL HAS SENT A PROPOSAL BACK TO THE PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION REGARDING A 165 FOOT HIGH CELL PHONE TOWER THAT WOULD BE BUILT ON ASPENWOOD STREET IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA.

THE PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION VOTED 4-1 TO DENY THE PROPOSAL AT THEIR LAST HEARING BASED ON THE OBJECTIONS OF MANY NEIGHBORHOOD RESIDENTS.

THE TOWER WOULD BE BUILT ON THE PROPERTY OF THE IOWA SEVENTH DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH, WHICH WOULD BE PAID BY VERIZON TO ALLOW THE TOWER ON THEIR PROPERTY.

CHURCH MEMBERS SPOKE IN FAVOR OF THE PROPOSAL AND A VERIZON SPOKESMAN OFFERED TO REDESIGN THE TOWER TO MAKE IT MORE AESTHETIC FOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

PLANNING AND ZONING WILL TAKE ANOTHER LOOK AT THE PROPOSAL AT THEIR AUGUST 26TH MEETING.
