MEMBERS OF THE CREW AND PASSENGERS WHO SURVIVED THE CRASH OF UNITED AIRLINES FLIGHT 232 AT SIOUX GATEWAY AIRPORT IN JULY OF 1989 HAVE GATHERED IN SIOUX CITY THIS WEEKEND.

THOSE WHO WERE AMONG THE 184 SURVIVORS ON THE PLANE ARE HAVING AN EMOTIONAL REUNION WITH EMERGENCY RESPONDERS WHO HELPED RESCUE THEM 25 YEARS AGO:

CAPTAIN AL HAYNES, THE PILOT OF FLIGHT 232, HAS GIVEN OVER 1700 TALKS ABOUT THAT DAY.

HE SAYS THOSE TALKS HAVE BEEN THERAPY HE’S USED TO COPE WITH WHY HE SURVIVED AND 112 OTHERS ON THE FLIGHT DID NOT:

OC….GO WITH THAT. :25

FLIGHT ATTENDANT SUSAN WHITE CALLENDER RETURNED TO WORK AFTER THE CRASH, BUT FOUND IT WAS DIFFICULT TO COPE WITH THE DISASTER’S AFTERMATH:

OC……ALL GOOD NOW. ;26

THE CREW MEMBERS HAVE MET REGULARLY SINCE THE CRASH, AND IT WAS IMPORTANT FOR THEM TO COME TO SIOUX CITY ONE LAST TIME TO SAY THANKS TO THE COMMUNITY.

SATURDAY CREW MEMBERS AND PASSENGERS FROM THE FLIGHT WILL ATTEND A 2:30PM CEREMONY AT THE MID AMERICA AIR MUSEUM NEAR THE SIOUX GATEWAY AIRPORT.

THERE WILL BE A REMEMBRANCE SERVICE SUNDAY MORNING AT 11AM AT THE ANDERSON DANCE PAVILION.
