Village Northwest in Sheldon has broken ground on two new group homes.
The two new homes are replacing 12-person homes, built almost 40 years ago.
The new homes will have 6 bedrooms, each with a half bath.
In addition, the homes are being designed specifically to serve the needs of people with physical disabilities.
The doors and the hallways are designed to be wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs, and each of the bedrooms and bathrooms will be equipped with lift systems.
The homes are part of a multi-year project to reduce the size of the current homes on campus from serving 12 individuals per home to 6.
Village Northwest serves 180 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and traumatic brain injuries.
