Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Bruce Braley made a campaign swing to Sioux City Thursday, conducting a roundtable forum on Social Security & Medicare with invited guests and members of the media.

Braley told those in attendance that Congress needs to protect Social Security and Medicare and ensure funds are there for current and future generations of workers.

He took his Republican opponent, State Senator Joni Ernst to task for wanting to privatize social security:

OC….THIS SENATE RACE. :19

Braley, who is a Congressman serving eastern Iowa, says one way to increase social security funding is to increase the federal minimum wage:

OC…..300,000 IOWANS. ;23

Braley says the social security program is currently in good shape, and the minimum wage increase would help keep it that way:

OC…..WHAT I FAVOR. ;16

Braley does not favor increasing the retirement age or changing the index used to adjust social security for inflation.

He wrapped up his 10 city social security tour Thursday afternoon in Council Bluffs.
