THE SIOUX CITY SCHOOL BOARD HAS APPROVED THE NAME OF THE NEW SCHOOL BEING CONSTRUCTED TO REPLACE THE FORMER WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY BUILDING.

STUDENTS FROM WASHINGTON AND WHITTIER ELEMENTARIES CAST BALLOTS ON FOUR POSSIBLE NAMES FOR THE SCHOOL, AND CHOSE THE NAME MORNINGSIDE ELEMENTARY OVER DISCOVERY, JOURNEY AND LEWIS.

SUPERINTENDENT PAUL GAUSMAN SAYS MORNINGSIDE WAS THE OVERWHELMING CHOICE:

OC…SOMETHING LIKE THAT. :14

THE NEW SCHOOL IS BEING CONSTRUCTED AT THE SITE OF THE FORMER WASHINGTON BUILDING LOCATED AT SOUTH MARTHA AND BUSHNELL.

IT’S SCHEDULED TO OPEN IN AUGUST OF 2015, REPLACING WHITTIER AND THE NOW DEMOLISHED WASHINGTON BUILDINGS.
