WOODBURY COUNTY SUPERVISORS HAVE PASSED A PLAN TO IMPLEMENT SECURITY AT THE COUNTY COURTHOUSE USING RETIRED LAWMEN AND MILITARY VETERANS.

THE PLAN PASSED TUESDAY MORNING BY A 4-1 VOTE.

IN ADOPTING SUPERVISOR JACKIE SMITH’S PLAN FROM A WEEK AGO, THE BOARD REJECTED AN EARLIER PROPOSAL BY SHERIFF DAVE DREW USING COUNTY RESERVE DEPUTIES AND A DEPUTY SERGEANT.

SUPERVISORS REJECTED THAT PLAN AS TOO EXPENSIVE, DESPITE SUPPORT FOR IT BY THE COUNTY ATTORNEY, COUNTY AUDITOR AND A LOCAL UNION LEADERS.

SUPERVISOR MARK MONSON MADE AN UNUSUAL POINT TO DELAY SMITH FROM FIRST MAKING A MOTION ON HER PLAN:

OC….BUDGET FOR $250,000 :20

COUNTY AUDITOR PAT GILL PRESENTED A COMPARISON OF THE TWO PLANS, SAYING THE SHERIFF’S PLAN WAS BETTER AND MORE ECONOMICAL FOR A NUMBER OF REASONS, BUT SUPERVISORS REJECTED GILL’S FIGURES AND SAY HE ALTERED BOTH PLANS.

OC…..EITHER SIDE. ;17

SUPERVISOR DAVID TRIPP WAS THE ONLY BOARD MEMBER TO VOTE FOR THE SHERIFF’S PLAN;

OC…PROTECT THESE PEOPLE. ;14

JIM MARSHALL, A LOCAL LABOR LEADER, TOOK THE BOARD TO TASK FOR SMITH’S PLAN WHICH HE FELT HAD TOO MANY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS;

OC…AT THE BALLOT BOX. :12

MARK MONSON CALLED FOR A ROLL CALL VOTE, AND GRUDGINGLY VOTED FOR SMITH’S PLAN:

OC…..PUZZLING TO ME. 21

THE COUNTY HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR WILL OVERSEE COURTHOUSE SECURITY UNDER THE APPROVED PLAN .
