NORTH SIOUX CITY POLICE SAY A DOMESTIC DISPUTE LED TO A SHOOTING SATURDAY NIGHT THAT RESULTED IN THE DEATH OF THE SUSPECT AND WOUNDING OF A PASSER-BY.

THE INCIDENT BEGAN AT 7:30PM AT THE INTERSECTION OF MILITARY ROAD AND NORTHSHORE DRIVE.

THE SUSPECT, 38 YEAR OLD ERIC JOHNSON OF ELK POINT AND HIS WIFE, 38 YEAR OLD MELANIE JOHNSON WERE IN AN ARGUMENT WHEN THE HUSBAND PRODUCED A GUN AND THREATENED TO SHOOT HIS WIFE.

POLICE SAY SHE FLED AND FLAGGED DOWN A PASSING CAR DRIVEN BY GARY OLSON OF JEFFERSON, SOUTH DAKOTA WHO HAD OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS WITH HIM.

THE OLSONS DROVE MRS. JOHNSON FROM THE SCENE, WITH ERIC JOHNSON PURSUING THEM IN HIS PICK UP TRUCK AND FIRING HIS GUN AT THE OLSON VEHICLE.

THREE BULLETS HIT THE CAR, ONE WOUNDING SHELBY OLSON, THE GOOD SAMARITAN’S DAUGHTER, IN THE LOWER BACK.

SHE WAS TAKEN TO MERCY MEDICAL CENTER WITH A NON-LIFE THREATENING INJURY AND TREATED AND RELEASED.

ERIC JOHNSON FLED DOWN INTERSTATE 29 INTO IOWA, THEN HEADED INTO NEBRASKA DOWN HIGHWAY 75 AT SPEEDS OF 100 MILES AN HOUR INTO THURSTON COUNTY.

AUTHORITIES DISABLED JOHNSON’S VEHICLE AND IT WENT OFF THE ROAD NORTH OF MACY.

THE NEBRASKA STATE PATROL SAYS JOHNSON THEN APPARENTLY TOOK HIS OWN LIFE.

AUTHORITIES FROM STATE, COUNTY AND CITY LAW ENFORCEMENT FROM OUR TRI-STATE AREA WERE INVOLVED IN THE PURSUIT.
