The Stanton County Sheriff says all of the victims in Tuesday’s three vehicle accident that claimed three lives and critically injured a fourth have been tentatively identified.
The accident happened just after 9:00 a.m. at the intersection of Highways 15 and 32 near Pilger when an eastbound SUV on Highway 32 drove into the path of a southbound grain semi on Highway 15 and was struck broadside.
The impact sent both vehicles into a northbound semi with an empty tanker.
The northbound semi and SUV burst into flames and the northbound semi driver and two occupants in the SUV were killed.
The driver of the grain semi, 27 year old Brandon Wolf of Fremont, Nebraska, suffered life threatening injuries when he was partially ejected from his cab.
The next of kin of the three fatalities have been notified.
Positive identification may take several more days as the victims were burned beyond recognition and the Sheriff has undertaken efforts to obtain their dental records.
A Nebraska Departments of Roads crew was performing maintenance on the stop signs for eastbound traffic at the intersection when the accident occurred.
