Even though spring is here, area farms aren’t quite ready for field work and planting.

Iowa State University extension crops specialist, Joel DeJong says farmers should not worry about getting into the fields just yet.

DeJong says he has noticed several farmers applying anhydrous ammonia in preparation for tillage.

He believes fields are still generally too wet to do much tillage and cautions farmers to wait for warmer weather, so to not have soil compaction.
