THE IOWA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION HAS REJECTED A REQUEST BY PEOPLE FOR THE ETHICAL TREATMENT OF ANIMALS TO PLACE A TEN FOOT TALL MONUMENT ON GORDON DRIVE IN MEMORIAL TO 500 TURKEYS THAT DIED WHEN A TRUCK TOPPLED OVER EARLIER THIS MONTH.

STEVE GENT OF THE D-O-T SENT PETA A LETTER EXPLAINING THAT IOWA CODE DOES NOT PERMIT ROADSIDE MEMORIALS ON THE PRIMARY HIGHWAY SYSTEM.

PETA WANTED TO PLACE THE MONUMENT ON THE RIGHT OF WAY ON GORDON DRIVE AND SOUTH ALICE WHERE THE APRIL 12TH ACCIDENT OCCURRED.

PETA WOULD HAVE SUPPLIED AND PAID FOR THE MEMORIAL.
